industry defined here as an all-encompassing term for enterprises engaged
in the commercial production and sale of goods, and services, in order
to accommodate a classification system, such as
NAICS (the North
American Industry Classification System), the expression target
industry describes a selection. A target industry study is
the product
of research done to determine the wants and needs of a location seeking
economic
development and what group of enterprises should
be selected for, say, a marketing
