What does a location data supplier do?

See About Economic Development, Page 4 for a breakdown of various types of contacts as suppliers of information about places of interest to site selectors and enterprise developers. In all categories, contacts can be found to either assemble location packages or put you in touch with someone who can. For example, libraries are listed under regional and local information sources but, as you may expect, they provide only what they have collected without interpretation.

(Libraries should) ... have knowledgeable staff available to guide users to appropriate contacts for obtaining additional information as well as assistance to prospects (source of quote).

A location or community profile is a useful publication produced by many location data suppliers, especially, area and local developers who additionally offer assistance to prospects. Profiles are available online or by request. They are typically included in location packages. Easy to use profiles have information organized under various universally recognized categories, such as the items of location data listed in About Site Selection, Page 2. Location packages may be organized using so called Site Selection Data Standards as a guide.

Giving consideration to the enterprise developer or site selector as economic development prospect it should be noted that such location data suppliers as area and local development representatives are generally expected to customize location packages upon request. What they prepare should be arranged with information categorized as requested.

Where does a .network user find resources for doing site location work?

Searching online seems to suit the majority of them now that we have the Internet. See the six page series about searching in the .network introduction. Also, see three things that every user needs to know about The Network. Given that a site selector is someone who searches for a location during the course of an enterprise development project, it is suggested that you go to the files, Search for a Location and Search for a Contact. In the latter case, especially, take a look at the file section about contact directories. It explains by example how we take a multiple approach to helping .network mission participants, site selectors included, find resources.

How do mission participants find and get in touch with contacts?

They can start out by searching a global directory of contacts maintained specifically to serve the main purpose of The Network. Three key search items are published online from the database that supports the directory in order to make finding contacts a quick and easy process. Links to contact data are published for free* at the request of .network users. Once published, links remain in place until broken or changes occur with connected resources.
spacer
The value of The Network as a specialized search resource and its Global Registry of Contacts is enhanced by the availability of outside contact directories. See the resource file, US Economic Development Directories for examples. Yet more examples can be found in the lists of business publications that have contacts qualified to be .network mission participants as advertisers. Use the Google/.network search engine to search publications for contacts.

To understand more about the commitment of The Network in assisting users with their efforts to find resource and service providers select this link: www.ecodevdirectory.com. The URL is the address of an outside contacts resource known as the Economic Development Directory.

It doesn't matter whether you choose to search the Global Registry of Contacts or another contact directory relevant to the the mission, you are covered by a unique search promises.

* The exception to the implication that all users of The Network may request links to contact data for free is as follows: It is not intended that mission contacts should request links to contact data for their own listings in Global Registry of Contacts online, except under the circumstances of having contributed financially to the operations of The Network (see The Global Registry of Contacts is a Springboard ... ). In addition, those who contribute significantly otherwise with resources or through forming a mutually beneficial partnership with us (who we are) are provided free links to their contact data from within the GRC online. Otherwise, mission contacts are on par with all other users in that they are entitled to request links to information for getting in touch be published or corrected for free in the GRC.

See the answer to the question of who pays for the operations of The Network.

Questions or comments regarding exception to our free services offers are welcomed.

FYI: The reason why links and information for getting in touch with mission contacts are not published online with every listing in the global directory of contacts maintained by The Network is that information is subject to change without notice. We (who we are) therefore opt to publish contact data and links to websites at the request of users as a free service.
