In general a development alliance is an association of
interested parties or coalition behind a development effort.
The example used on this page is the Development
Alliance, a group that
came together and created a
set
of standards for economic
development organizations in the United States to refer to when developing
promotional
location
data and information for prospects.
The standards are offered
as guidelines for locations anywhere
seeking economic development and wanting to know what site
selection consultants generally want from them.

Data
Standards Guidelines: What They're About, and What They're NOT About,
an article by Shari Barnett published in Site Selection Magazine,
November 2001. Site Selection is published by Conway
Data, a Development Alliance
partner. Site selection magazines as a generic category of specialized
publications are listed
in the Site Location Assistance website of The
Network you are now using. The
Network is a nonpartisan online
information service having no affiliation with the Development
Alliance.

Getting
Started: Putting Together the Site Selection Data Standards by
Shari Garmise, Ph.D. is a resource paper published at DevelopmentAlliance.com.
It mentions that the data broker, ACN.net put
site selection data standards to work. ACN (American
Community Network)
went through several name changes and ownerships. Although never
a part of the Development Alliance, ACN/Odyssey
apparently attempted to go along with adapting the standards.

Focus List
Data Defined published at DevelopmentAlliance.com states that
community
profiles carried on the website ... are submitted and maintained
by cities and towns across the US using the IEDC site selection data standards.

The following quote was once found at DevelopmentAlliance.com but was
unavailable at last check: ... Web site has several data sets that
make it the most efficient and cost-effective way to promote a community
on the Internet. It even has a criteria based search engine that allows
users to compare communities using 20 different criteria. The
criteria count in the quote suggests that the search tool provided
by Conway Data may have some of the same categories of
data
elements that one would find at the website of its Development Alliance
partner, the International Economic Development Council (IEDC). CLICK
HERE for more information about data elements or access the
IEDC Site Selection Data Standards file from here.
