zone:
... a designation for a
location or
area within a location indicating a special status, for
example an enterprise
zone. The expression, enterprise
zone is also a a location
data element. Following are examples various types
of zones for enterprise
and economic development and community
redevelopment. Zones as defined here typically
offer incentives for business
and industry development. The following examples
of such zones may show up as location data
elements in the
community
profiles of places that
have them:

export processing zone: ... area designated for receiving and
storing goods without the obligation to pay duties. Such
a zone allows workers to process or assemble goods for
export using imported parts that are considered never to
have been imported in the manner that requires duty payment.

foreign trade zone:
... FTZ;
a place designed by a country's customs agency where business
operations are allowed to function without responsibility
to pay duties on imported products or materials for as
long as they remain within a specified area. Foreign
Trade Zones are designated by US Customs. An FTZ
functions in much the same way as a export processing zone,
except that goods may be passed from it into the country
granting its status after processing, thus providing an
advantage of using a mix of domestic and foreign parts
without paying duty on the latter until the end-product
is actually moved from the zone.

free trade zone:
... area designated in a foreign country
where goods can be shipped and stored without paying duties
until they pass from the zone. Wikipedia
has a file that discusses free trade zone.

high-tech industry development zone:
... a special area seeking high-tech employers
and having a focus on the development of enterprises involved
in commercial
production and distribution; a zone for
which the most desirable target for enterprise
development is manufacturing and
the creation of jobs that match with the skill level or
potential of the local labor
force. Perhaps the most sought after prospect targets
for high-tech industry development zones would be a combination
facilities for manufacture and research in which skilled
workers are employed or manufacturers needing local research
and/or engineering
technology services available locally.

zone / enterprise zone:
... an expression used to promote an
defined area that has financial assistance and services
available to make it more attractive for enterprise
development; a zone in
which there are tax breaks and other incentives offered
in order to encourage investment by
enterprises.
