user:

a person who gains something from human-machine interaction. Devices, such as computers, and people who avail themselves of information resources or other things of interest online are users. More information in a Wikipedia article about user interface.

Users and visitors are different but are counted as hits at a number of websites. The question of value is raised when a visitor or hit doesn't convert to a user. Audience refers to listeners or viewers gathered together, (here audience is) analogous to users, for example, analogous to the .network core user group (source of quote).

Internet users avail themselves of communication or network services. The term user agent refers to programs, such as browsers and robots as web crawlers or spiders, retrieve information from websites.
