You are put upon after selecting something of interest from a search engine results page and encounter an in-your-face popup before being accorded usership. An open access website typically offers unencumbered free access in contrast to one that is in-your-face commercial.

Unencumbered as a real estate term refers to no interference when entering, exiting or using real property; i.e., no locks on gates, doors or other means of entering and exiting. Also, unencumbered property is that which is has no liens, mortgages or debts.
