technical school:

a combination academic and training institution that endeavors to produce candidate workers for the laborforce of a area or to provide a vocational education in general. A technical school graduate is deemed have practical skills and knowledge for entering the workforce of a specific field or profession. Training is is typically specialized.

Often times, technical training implies preparation for working in mechanical or scientific fields. Colleges and universities graduate engineers and scientific specialists with degrees beyond that of certification or acknowledgement of an academic/training experience.

When community colleges offer curriculums that focus on preparation for the job market, they are referred to as technical schools or technical colleges. Vocational training, however, is offered in environments both inside and outside of schools, for example, a various labor unions offer training to members engaged in various trades and crafts—training and apprenticeships can be combined. An apprentice is a trainee on the job working alongside an experienced trade union and craft union member.
