target:

... an objective or goal; something to aim for. Marketers try to identity target audiences. They do market analysis (see Introduction to Marketing Research at Market Teacher.com).

Target industry identification provides useful information for the leadership in places seeking economic development. Those who work as representatives of such places are specialized marketers. Among the resources they need to do their jobs are target industry profiles which contribute to the organization of marketing and networking strategies.

There are marketing consultants as specialist in the production of target industry studies. Some are experienced as site selection consultants which gives them the insight to advise on how to match locational strengths, assets resources to the wants and needs of specific types of prospects. Target industry identification studies done by advisors on economic development marketing strategies often include lists of companies — a leads list.

A target area is generally identified by an enterprise developer in advance of gathering information from individual places of interest. Using a set of selection criteria. a site selector targets locations within the area and gathers information about them. The typical contacts for gathering information are called location data suppliers, many of which are representatives of places seeking economic development. Experienced site selectors use a process known as comparative analysis which requires referring to the criteria for choosing the optimal site location.

The Network seeks to provide resources to a target audience of users. Perhaps you are a member of that audience and have chosen to participate in the .network mission. If so, we (who we are) appreciate your interest as a member of the .network core user group.

target audience:

... a selected group of viewers, listeners, readers, spectators, followers, visitors or users whose attention is wanted. A target user group is made up of people invited to do something online other than just visit a website. A group is a target because the contents of the website extending the invitation are designed to be of interest and its resources of specific use to members.

The target audience, as a user group, that a website of The Network is organized for is made up of business decision makers, especially those who are enterprise developers and site selectors. They are leaders of fast-growing companies and small businesses on the move. They are entrepreneurs as well as a worldwide leadership interested and engaged as advocates and supporters of places seeking economic development. The Network is a means for members of its target user group to find and get in touch with resources and service providers. A participant in The Network offering a resource or service is a mission contact.
