services: ... helpful or useful activities available or called upon for specific purposes; work done for others; the rendering or production of something that has no physical substance, but has value when remuneration or the request for remuneration is involved. A service is an intangible product as an item of goods and services that is either available or delivered. It is an exertion on behalf of a duty, responsibility, task, appointment, or request. Employees are compensated by employers for the value of their services. Services are delivered directly from a service provider to an end users without a transfer of ownership. In other words, a user of a service does not take possession although it is referred to as a product. Services cannot be stored or transported. They are instantly expended in the services delivery process. Business Dictionary.com provides examples and addresses the point about the expendability in its definition of services. Resources for carrying out enterprise and economic development projects are available through service providers. For example, area and local development representatives (economic developers) typically offer site location services when providing location packages to prospects. A location profile, for example, is a project resource. See the definition of resource and service providers as well as that for mission contacts.
