Service providers are individuals, enterprises and other operating entities in possession of the necessary resources and/or tools and materials for dealing with a problem, zeroing in on an opportunity or otherwise assisting in moving forward on an endeavor; a resource supplier provides a service. The enterprise behind The Network, Economic Development Services, has a global service area (see below). The Network provides resources in support of a mission while EDS provides services such as delivering on its promise.

A service area is a market defined in terms of geographic size as an outreach from the location of an enterprise.
