real asset :

... something that is of inherent value to its owner because it can be as used as as well as exchanged in a financial transaction. Something owned or controlled that has worth established solely by its market price (book value) is referred to as a normal asset.

An example of a real asset is land that can be cultivated (useful real estate). An example of a normal asset is money in circulation. A financial asset is something that represents a source of value (property), for example a title, security, or a savings account.
