make contact:

... to initiate an interpersonal rapport; an expression referring to a successful attempt to open communications initially. It has the analogical meaning to touch without regard for whether there is acknowledgement or reciprocation involved.

As a networking expression to make contact implies that the initiating party is attempting to build or maintain a relationship. The expression getting in touch means making the first step. The mission of The Network is carried out as participants make contact with each other.

Contacts are resource and service providers of interest to participants in the .network mission. The Network supports the mission by providing (resources). Among its resources are contact directories, including the Global Registry of Contacts.
