location identity: ... information that is not address-related but nevertheless useful for finding a place on a map or in an atlas. A location identity may be just one word, such as the name of a country. It may also be a string of informational items such as city and state. The Network uses the term location identity string and suggests laying out information in a specific manner in order to search its Global Registry of Contacts efficiently. A couple of location identity strings are shown in the following paragraph, which is the aforementioned suggestion quote. Locations are listed in alphabetical order in GRC documents. Abbreviations follow names. When searching for a location in Canada or the United States, type in the name, a comma, and the abbreviation of the province or state, for example, Toronto, ON or Atlanta, GA. (Note: abbreviations are case-sensitive.) When searching for locations in other countries, type name, comma, and abbreviation for, for example, Berne, CN for Berne, Switzerland. (Note: abbreviations for nations are case-sensitive.)—source of quote. Use the search tool below to test use of the location strings provided in the above paragraph. |
location link: ... addition of a hyperlink to a location listing in the Global Registry of Contacts. When users of The Network searching for information about places of interest request location links, they are provided for free on a temporary basis. Specifically what is offered is a link to a community profile of interest to an enterprise developer or site selector. We (who we are) do the search for an appropriate profile and, if one can be found, we published the link to it for a period of time sufficient for the user making the request to access it. The one caveat is that we do not provide this service for free to the publisher of the profile, i.e. to the location data supplier or an area or local development representative. For information about how area and local development representatives and other publishers of community profiles may obtain location links, CLICK HERE. related: location; places
