job:

. . . industrious or purposeful activity for which a worker is compensated. A job is an agreed-to assignment, duty or responsibility that bonds employee to employer. It is a work activity within a trade, occupation or profession. Productivity is a basic job output.

It might be said that a worker is on the job or that an employee is a job holder. Either way the expectation is typically that a worker will perform in accord with some type of job description. When workers hold regular jobs for extended periods they may be evaluated from time-to-time for job performance.

A regular job is typically a worker's main source of income or earnings. It's performed during normal working time as compared to what others are similarly doing, for example, working an eight hour shift during the day. A regular job is sometimes defined as a day job but many workers work a night (night job) and many shift workers rotate their shifts, working some days and some nights. Also there are regular jobs wherein workers work overtime, i.e., before or after regularly scheduled worktime.

Being at work is a slang expression meaning to be at the place where one has a regular job. When the place moves around for a worker, the location at any particular time may be referred to as a job site, for example, construction workers move from jobsite to jobsite.

Wikipedia has a job article.
