The 65% figure in the definition of location search is from the paragraph below published on the summary page of an 2005 report by Development Counsellors International, New York, NY.

Sixty-five percent of respondents indicated a strong likelihood that they would use an economic development organization's website in their next location search. The executives named "information on available incentives," "demographic information" and "directory of available buildings & sites" as the most useful features of an economic development organization's website.

FYI: Development representatives of places around the world seeking economic development have opportunities, without cost or obligation on their part, for placing links or identifying themselves in websites of The Network. For example, a location data supplier has an open invitation to list in Economic Development.net any place that can be found on a map and include a link for free to a webpage providing his or her contact data.

Experienced enterprise developers work at risk management. Whether they contract for help with location work, assign the task to an employee or team, or wear the hat of a site selector themselves, savvy business decision makers know, for example, that comparative analysis trumps a search for incentives only. While they may seem worthwhile, taking the bait of an incentive without evaluating risks at a location using a set of thoughtfully organized selection criteria may be a trip down a road that doesn't lead to success.
