facility:

... a property as a structure with attachments and installations constructed to serve a particular function. The term is often used in the plural, as in facilities construction. Facilities expansion is is a part of the enterprise and economic development process. It begins with facilities planning as a part of enterprise development.

According to Business Dictionary.com, facilities may be ... permanent, semi-permanent, or temporary (commercial and industrial properties, such as buildings, plants and other structures) ... built, established, or installed for the performance of one or more specific activities or functions (source of quote). Business facilities is defined in this glossary.

Facilities location work is site selection as it pertains to searching for either an existing property, such as an available building that can be built out or retrofitted and put to use, or a freestanding real estate site. In either case the facilities location process is one of choosing the optimal place for an expansion, relocation, or entrepreneurial venture.

Existing facilities of large enterprises are typically managed by specialists. Search for articles about facilities management at www.facilityzone.com. Facility managers may be responsible for various property assets as well as organizing projects, such as those for site selection.
