Business networking is essential to moving forward with enterprise and economic development projects. Area and local development representatives as contacts for enterprise developers and site selectors, for example as locaton data suppliers, build and maintain ally networks. ... the place and/or time where something happens; where the action is; a point of serious reality, often meaning that there is no choice other than taking a stand or making a decision; the point where procrastination needs to be replaced by action; the event of things beginning to move. The image is that of a tire spinning but nothing happening until it touches a surface. Those who work in the economic development field representing locations are expected to be skilled at marketing as well as networking. Economic development is defined as a defined as a specialized form of marketing. There are two forms of marketing. Advertising and promotion that doesn't require followup is indirect marketing. Having an economic development program that is totally indirect, such as image advertising is difficult, if not impossible, to measure for results. Results is an operative word implied when defining economic development as a process. Savvy location development representatives organize their efforts around control of direct marketing so they can arrive efficiently at a point of dealing with a prospect or suspect as soon as possible. Following up in order to promote or network in a selling mode is a form of direct marketing. A focus on processing information exchanges with an eye on benefiting from the experiences of others is the key to following up within a network. The Network has a target
