entrepreneur:

... an enterprise developer; the primary risk-taker who organizes, starts up and leads an enterprise as its business decision maker. Michael Bloomberg, mayor of New York City and entrepreneur, once stated that entrepreneurship ... is about doing something where you don't know what what it's gonna look like, you don't know what it's made of (but) you just have this instinct that you can do it and it'll work.

Entrepreneurship is is the driving force behind innovation and enterprise development. YouTube has Dr. Steve Gedeon of the Ted Rogers School of Management, Ryerson University, Toronto, ON, presenting several talks on entrepreneurship. CLICK HERE to access the one in which he answers the question: What in entrepreneurship?

The entrepreneurial spirit is made up of a driving force fueled by ambition, passion, and an ability to adjust and adapt in the face of risk without caving to pressure or the urge to abandon enterprising efforts when the going gets tough. Those who have an entrepreneurial spirit are likely to be peak performers who are not easily discouraged by failure. Successful entrepreneurs are savvy risk managers who seek to learn from experience. The Entrepreneur Magazine website has an article: Spirit of the Entrepreneur. Subtitle: These 5 characteristics will take you far as you start your business.

A skilled entrepreneur is a manager of things necessary to implement and start up a venture. The article, Four Reasons Why Small Businesses Succeed (or Fail), at Business Know-How.com states that ... the owner or manager of a small business must evolve, morph or otherwise change from a manager of things to a manager of people and from a technical expert to a strategic thinker (source of quote).

The entrepreneur is a business decision maker and continues to manage beyond startup. Being effective as a decision maker means anticipating problems and challenges the come with entrepreneurial risk. Pressure to choose institutionalization over innovation or to find a status quo niche and coast threatens sustainability of the entrepreneurial enterprise.
