employee:

... a person hired to report on a regular basis to work at a job in exchange for compensation.

In general, employees either earn a salary or are paid for working regularly within a set time period. In the latter case, employees may be referred to as hourly, day (daywork) or seasonal workers. An hourly is probably the best example of a type of employee who qualifies for overtime in the event that the person works for an extended period. A worker who doesn't qualify additional pay under overtime regulations is categorized as exempt.
