consultant:

... an advisor. Consultants in the business world offer services to analyze and solve problems that require applications of specialized knowledge and experience. They offer services and support to business decision makers. They provide business solutions.

Business consultants take on projects to examine, evaluate, analyze, or otherwise look into assigned situations. As management consultants they guide, coach, train, and take on responsibilites to organize and direct activities for which there is no applicable experience or expertise within the enterprise. A site selection consultant handles facilities location projects.

Consultants work as free-lance professionals, within consulting groups, or as employees of service firms. As an example of the latter, some accounting firms have employees that work as specialized consultants, such as those involved in the site selection process mentioned above.

Advisors, counsellors, and consultancy are examples of various words consulting groups may use to identify themselves and what they do, say, for members of the .network core user group. Specifically of interest to the group and their resource and service providers are, for example, economic development consultants, continuous improvement consultants,

Some advisors work as volunteers, offering pro bono consel and guidance. The SCORE (Service Corps Of Retired Executives) program is an example. SCORE is a partnership program between the US Business Administration (SBA) and volunteer advisors. These and other types of advisors may be available through chambers of commerce, other associations, and business incubation centers. In many cases

A consultancy as an organization of experienced professional who provides expertise for a fee. A consulting group may organize around one or more individuals with in-depth expertise or a celebrity status. The group may offer services with using names and phrases that are in vogue or draw attention, for example there are TQM consultants and success consultants.

Many consultants become well known as wirters as well as speakers and have contributed to dramatic shifts in their fields of expertise. This definition of consultant focuses on business consultants and management consultants, and site location consultants, as well as any others who qualify as advisors to members of the .network core user group. All consultants engaged in enterprise and economic development qualify for free listings in the Global Registry of Contacts.

Generall the type od advisors defined here are generally though of as for hire. However, there are volunteers that offer pro bono consel and guidance. Area and local development representatices are called on to serve as consultants to prospects. They are typically experienced as economic developers who have expert knowledge of the location(s) they represent. Therefore, they are location data suppliers who also serve in an advisory capacity.
