business plan:

... the document that summarizes the operational and financial objectives of an enterprise: a planning tool that includes detailed financial projections and performance forcasting.

Lenders, venture capitalists, and investors want to see business plans of enterprises seeking capital. Enterprise developers who enjoy successful entreprenurial starups with adequate financial backing no doubt bring attention to themselves by presenting a business plan in some acceptable fashion. Plans for expansions and site selection selection projects are subordinate to the business plan as are those for business development and marketing.

The Entrepreneur Media website, www.entrepreneur.com, has a definition of business plan in its Small Business Encyclopedia and, in addition, offers information about the elements that make up a business plan under Starting a Business. The .network Enterprise and Economic Development Library has resources in its Business section for more learning about putting a business plan together. You can get to many of the same resources by searching the Web for the text line: "what is" "business plan" (simply copy and past the italicized text, keeping the quotation marks as you see them.
