area:

... the scope of what is recognizable from a spot where it is pointed out. Such an area may have no fixed boundary, for example, a valley pointed out as an area surrounded by hills. On the other hand, pointing out an area may refer to, say, a section of land with fixed boundaries. A salesperson may place markers on the boundaries of a real estate site in order to make it convenient for a prospect understand what is being pointed out.

An area may be a geography, such as a region or a place where a community exists. A local economy, sometimes referred to as a basic economy, is defined as a community and its contiguous surrounding area. The term area development is sometimes used to describe what representatives of communities seeking economic development are expected to take responsibility for. The Network uses the expression area and local development representatives to zero in on economic development practitioners in place as location data suppliers.

An area may be defined by an enterprise developer from the core user group of The Network when instructing a site selection team by pointing out, for example, that a place for an expansion needs to be found in an area within 50 miles of a certain regional airport. What the enterprise developer does is point out a target area for searching.

Pointing out the search area and selecting the airport at its center establishes project criteria. The initial step of laying out the criteria is part of organizing a search project. It's followed by the efforts aimed at gathering information, for example, from location data suppliers.

What is a site selection area?:

Site Location Assistance.com defines the term along with others related to the site selection process. Also there is a paragraph in the definition of area at the top of this page providing a simple example of an enterprise developer organizing a site selection project by targeting a search area. Use the search engine below to gather additional information from outside The Network. Try the Global Registry of Contacts if your interest is in finding information about a specific search for an area of interest. You can also request that a location be added to the GRC with a link to a contact in position to provide information about it.

Suggestion: Copy the following italicized text lines, keeping quotation marks intact. Paste what you copy to the search engine. Zero in on a area as a place of interest by adding a location identity. The first three suggestions demonstrate.
