stakeholder: ... a person or group having a share or interest, as in an enterprise, whether granted as a fixed right or based on an assumption or acknowledgement; a person or group that invests enough time, resources, and/or capital is an endeavor so as to be able to exercise power and/or control to some extent; one who either owns a self-legitimized share in an enterprise or a claim to a share backed by force of law; an individual or group having a de facto influence or control, as opposed an owner's right, over the actions, objectives, and policies of an operation. Customers have a de facto influence on the future of an enterprise operation based on whether they continue to accept its products or services. They are stakeholders if they have long-term contracts. The definition of customer speak becomes a definition of stakeholder speak. Other examples of stakeholders are suppliers, creditors and venture capitalists. Operations that benefit directly from economic development, such as electrical utilities and commercial and industrial real estate firms are stakeholders in the process. Therefore, you will often find them involved with partnership networks. A place seeking economic development is a stakeholder in its local area economy and; therefore, has to show a pro-business attitude to prospects. That attitude has to be backed up by owners of existing businesses and industries. |
