advanced search:

... the application of one or more elements of a program which increases search efficiency as it allows the creation of keyword combinations and text phrases, thus returning more precise results.than that which one obtains through simple search; the incorporation of techniques or features when using a search tool so that a Boolean Search is initiated. Search returns are limited to what is specified which includes using Boolean operators.

For example, copying and pasting "definition of economic development" to the tool below, keeping quotation marks intact, initiates a phrase search. Your search of the Web will be the keyword combination altogether and in the order specified ... the same could by accomplished by setting grouping the words inside parentheses. By omitting the quotation marks or not using parentheses, the words become independent of one another for search purposes. Documents containing them in any order will be submitted as search results.
