A community is defined as a location that can be found on a map or in a atlas for .network mission purposes. In a broader sense the word signifies a group having communality without regard for location, for example ... a community of entrepreneurs contributing to economic development worldwide.
community college: ... an institution of higher learning that often time is oriented on preparing students for careers that fit into the local economy or job market. It may operate with or as a trade school or technical school. Using the search engine at the top of the community development page in About Economic Development, copy and paste the following italicized text line with quotation marks intact: "job skills" college location. (substitute a location identity for the word location).
community developer: ... a person who works for community sustainability at the infrastructure level which typically means addressing problems of poverty and the disadvantaged, especially, as related to housing, transportation, jobs and business retention. Community developers are likely to have economic development responsibilities or to, at least, work in tandem with other area and local development representatives. The latter are economic developers. They may have community development responsibilities but by definition are specialized marketers. Community development is a form of specialized marketing only in the sense that practitioners motivate civic leaders, activists, and citizens to address specific needs to improve various aspects of locales.

The entire set of approaches to community development may be considered a specialized form addressing, coordinating and building the social infrastructure at a location. Community development may be defined as a process of challenging the undesirable and unacceptable disparity of conditions and infrastructure that negatively affect the quality of life in a place where people live and work. It functions best as a process in locales where all strata of society and citizenry are engaged with a sense of community spirit. Community spirit in a specific location is recognizable by the way local people work together to get things done in a positive manner, thus bringing about a recognizable vitality beyond happenstance. Communitas is a word associated with community spirit as is the Latin phrase commune bonum, both of which generally fall outside of any association with community development or enterprise and economic development as defined by The Network.
